Waste Solutions Forum Phase II
The purpose of this project, completed in FY 05, was to engage farmers, policy makers, researchers, industry representatives and government officials in a facilitated, outcome based planning forum to come up with specific options and comprehensive solutions for utilizing excess animal waste in the Valley. Phase II objectives include finding funds to implement the top strategies identified in the Waste Solutions Final Report. The Steering Committee has applied for and received funds from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to house a Council employee at the RC&D office to be a “Market Maker.” Becky Barlow is a full-time, organic by-products manager, who aggressively markets and facilitates proper use of excess animal manures and other nutrient-rich byproducts produced in the Shenandoah Valley. (NFWF provided $157,000 and the Agua Fund: $5,000)
