Waste Solutions Forum Phase I

The project was completed in FY 05.  Its purpose was to engage farmers, policy makers, researchers, industry representatives and government officials in a facilitated, outcome based planning forum to come up with specific options and comprehensive solutions for utilizing excess animal waste in the Shenandoah Valley.  In addition to Shenandoah RC&D, co-sponsors include:  Virginia Dairymen’s Association, Virginia Poultry Federation, Farm Bureau, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Environmental Defense, numerous state agencies, Altria and the Keith Campbell Foundation.  Shenandoah RC&D Council has:

• Contributed $5,000 to the Forum.
• Appointed staff to serve on the steering, fundraising, and sponsor recognition committees and organize briefing papers.
• Committed to help implement Forum-generated Waste Solutions plan.
• The Forum was held April 28 and 29 at the Hotel Roanoke.

Goal:  Optimizing nutrient management and utilization in the Valley
