Project Activity

Rural Economic Vitality:

• Harrisonburg Farmers Market press event, pavilion kick-off, 5/23/07;
• Harrisonburg Farmers Market technical assistance meetings, 5/29/07; 6/26/07;
• Rural Resources Group/Rural Innovations meeting Clarke County, 6/18/07;

Water Quality/Quantity:

• Attended City of Harrisonburg meeting on Purcell Park Black’s Run restoration 5/16/07;
• Attended TMDL meeting re: North River and Muddy Creek at SVSWCD 6/13/07;
• Attended planning meetings with representatives from Pure Water Forum 6/4/07 and 6/28/07;

Nutrient Management:

·        Met with Conrad Heatwole, Eric Bendfeldt, Bobby Whitescarver, Mike Phillips re: CBFN project 5/22/07;

·        Met with WSF representatives at Expoland in Fishersville re: January Farm Show 5/29/07;

·        Residual Funds Committee Waste Solutions Forum 6/5/07;

·        Met with Eric Bendfeldt, VCE, to go over contracts/paperwork for CBFN fencing project and WSF steering committee meeting, 6/6/07;

·        Waste Solutions Forum steering committee meeting and Organic Resource Technology Cooperative Committee meeting all-day Charlottesville, 6/14/07;

·        Market Maker Advisory Committee teleconferences, 6/1/07; 7/6/07;

·        Met with Suzy Friedman, Gerald Heatwole, Eric Bendfeldt about transferring WSF co-chair duties 6/29/07;

Community Development:

Open Space:

·        Met with Jim Halasz, assistant city manager for Staunton, about Frontier Trails Greenway follow-up as part of VEE grant work on 6/1/07; followed up with Joanne Throwe about doing a financing plan for this greenway as part of our grant requirement;

Grants/Funding

• Completed and submitted grant report to the Keith Campbell Foundation for the Environment regarding our Waste Solutions Forum intern Jennifer Howard, 6/26/07;
• Completed and submitted final and interim grant reports to the Agua Fund, Inc., for funds received 2005/06 and 2006/07, 6/27/07;

NRCS Activities

• Completed required Leadership Assessment;
• Area I review June 11 all day;
• RC&D Coordinators Teleconference 6/4/07;

Other

• Attended Headwaters SWCD Meeting to update on RC&D activities 5/14/07
• Met with Lee Godfrey, Augusta County BOS candidate, re: environmental issues 6/6/07;
• Met with Jim Lawrence and Joan Comanor re: Annual Budget and Annual Plan, 6/8/07;
• VARCDC Forestry Committee meeting in Charlottesville, 6/19/07;
• VARCDC SE Association Spouse’s Tour conference call, 7/5/07;
• Attended meeting on switchgrass establishment for habitat and biofuels in Staunton, 6/26/07;
• In process of editing/submitting awards for Waste Solutions Forum and Jim Nichols for SE Association of RC&D Councils;
• Met with new Rockingham County Extension Agent Amber Vallotton re: planning  6/13/07;
• Will be on annual leave and out of the office July 16-30; return July 31, 2007;
